Villa Pippistrello
A magnificent 17th century farm house which sits totally undisturbed amidst beautiful woodlands on the crest of the Montagnola Senese hills. A protected rural landscape covered with ilex oak, under which grow truffles as well as porcini mushrooms, olives groves from which we collect the fruits and press our very own distinct olive oil, and wild flower meadows where deer graze in peace. An unpaved drive of approx 3.5 km lined by cypress and oak trees leads to the house which is enclosed at the front by a large walled and paved courtyard, in which is the original pizza and bread oven and a covered dining and lounge area overlooked by an upper loggia.The house has been recently restored with great care and attention to the smallest detail, retaining many of the original features common to Tuscan architecture both external and internal; The decor is elegant but eclectic, the rooms have exposed beam ceilings, lime washed walls in soft colours and terracotta tiled floors, with some twists of Italian modern design in the fireplaces, bathrooms and outdoor features.
There are two principle doors; one leading into the entry hall and a cloak room, the other entering a large country kitchen equipped with all modern amenities; suitable also for cooking classes and demonstrations. There is an open fireplace, a large oven, fridge with freezer, dishwasher and microwave oven. Walnut colour travertine together with a wooden top central island have been chosen for work surfaces complimenting the natural elements in the house. An open archway leads to the dining room, where a side door opens onto a small furnished terrace which views overlooks the woodlands. To the left another arch leads up to the living room which has a spectacular fireplace build on the natural rock on which the house was constructed, two French doors open onto a Zen terrace, perfect for enjoying the last rays of the evening light and cocktails.
Steps lead down to the lower garden and park, immediately below is the infinity pool (4,5 x 13 mt), with a travertine terrace which blends into its natural rocky environment. A fountain of fresh water flows continually into the pool providing beautiful clear water and a wonderfully refreshing back massage.
There are also two twin bedrooms each including a bathroom with shower on the ground floor, one suitable for handicapped access and a small cloak room with washer and dryer.
Two flights of antique travertine stairs lead up to the landing which opens onto a covered terrace overlooking the courtyard. To the right is a double bedroom with en suite bathroom with shower and to the left a large reception room with open fireplace and two further double/twin bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, each with a shower and bathtub.
The adjacent barn has been converted in a more contempory style, light and airy with an open plan design, providing accommodation for an additional four persons. On the upper level are two bedrooms, one double, one twin, each including bathroom with and shower. From the mezzanine an open staircase leads down from the living area with fireplace. Two large doors open onto a paved terrace for ‘al fresco’ dining. To the left is an open-plan dining room and kitchen.
