

The restored manor house sits on the villa grounds, surrounded by gardens and a stone wall. The next-door noble villa was the home of the Count Guinigi until 1957, the last descendent of the ruling Guinigi family of Lucca from the 15th century. The Casa Colonica Guinigi feels like it is in the country, but it is, in fact, walking distance from the train station and one can walk to the supermarket and neighborhood restaurants.
The house has two queen-size double bedrooms, one bedroom with twin beds and one remodeled bathroom which is down the corridor from the bedrooms. Many older homes had the bathroom installed at one corner of the house, instead of near a bedroom, as they thought that was more sanitary. Many of the walls have been painted a rich terra-cotta color. The owners have furnished the bedrooms with new comfortable mattresses and lovely bed covering.
With this house there is no need for car rental. The Casa Colonica Guinigi which is about 1/2 hour from Lucca and one hour by train to Florence. The great aspect of the house it is about a two city-block walk to the train station and one can take a train to all parts of Tuscany... Florence, Lucca, Pisa, the ocean-side beaches of Viareggio, Siena and Cinque Terre.
